Just like old times?

Alright, alright, something about this anime made me want to write this. Hi guys, it's been a while... your angel is so happy that there's a few likes and subs... I decided to write more, and male u all proud. Hehe!

Akatsuki no yona is a good anime, so watch it first before reading this. Warning spoilers alert.

With a smirk, Hak pulled back from the princess and pulled her to her feet. He watched her face blush, similar to her flaming hair, and then murmured, "Never underestimate the power of the lightening beast."

Yona felt memories from her childhood arose, and then she realised how much time had passed and she's already thirteen. He still beats her in tickle fights.

"S-Still I know your ticklish too!"

Hak's calm expression stiffens but he recovers instantly by a threatening smirk "Oh? Wanna challenge me again? Ticklish princess?"

She squeaked, now backing away. "I'm not the only one! Soo won, and you couldn't handle it as kids!"

"Can't handle what?"

They turned, guessing how his time was so impeccable. Hak watched the young boy approach them, looking innocently oblivious.

Yona pointed out, "Hak's cheating in tickle fights! I wanna get him, too!"

Surprised by how she got her act together as if she hadn't been tickled to pieces. Soo won smiled a little mischievously "I see... then allow me to offer my acquaintance to take down this beast..."

"Hold one!" Hak got defensive but as he faced the pretty boy, Yona made her move by grabbing his waist.

He yelped at the sudden contact and tried to keep his struggles neutral before he could hurt either of them by accident.

"If general Hak can't handle this? What will people say about the lightening beasts' weakness?" Soo won giggled as he followed Yona's actions by pinning both exists and digging into his sides.

Hak couldn't help but cackle this time "Dohohont! Ahaha ihihihi wihihill kill yohohou!" He eyed deadly at soo won but then collapsed to a fit of laughter now trying arch away from to gremlins. Yona laughed along finally relieved to get him back.

"Just like the old times, eh?" Soo won smiled half genuine half teasingly.

"Ohohohkahahay! Gahahame ohohon thehen! Gehehet back prihihincess yonahahaha!" He gently shoved her towards the tree before tackling Soo won now cornering him carefully. The younger looked up now, seeing the beast unleashing some menacing aura. Slightly nervous, he gave a rather soft giggle. "I... well, no hard feelings, dear general -"

"Hey soo won..." his voice got deeper as he cut in, and Yona watched from behind, wanting to see how things would turn out.

Hak continued in his husky voice now pulling one wrist above his head "Do you know who is the world's fiercest monster?"

Conscious about the situation, Soo won thrashed a little, but he was too delicate in contrast to the strong big brother figure pinning him. He's feeling the tension.

"You can get a visit from the.... so what's it called?" His calm voice teased as he dragged a finger up the other's side, and hearing the involuntary squeak realising his fate. Hak grinned now understanding how the hint got through, he wiggled his fingers higher before launching, "The tickle monster, perhaps?"

He was a goner.

"Ahaha Hahahak nohohot mehehe!"

"Yes, you! You got the most girliest and prettiest laugh! I can't help it, my cute little brother of mine!"

Soo won lost it as his ribs were assaulted, Hak had especially been skilled, knowing all his weak spots, and this was getting out of hand that he lost his composure.

Yona felt her smile lift at the sight of the boys now. Soo won was beautiful as he laughed airily and lightly as if he had no care in the world.

"Ohoho wait, wait... I remember soo won got a lot of tickle spots... probably more than Yona!"

"Hey!" She looked down now seeing Soo won's hand gripping Hak's free wrist. He had his long lashes fluttered and shut, struggling and trying to escape."Nohoho... hahaha Hahahahk! Stahahap ihihit!" Plehehehehase n-nohoho!"

"Stop...?" Hak taunted more by pinching the sensitive hips, getting him to squeal, "Oh please, we all know you deserve a laugh when you are as cute as Yona!"

"Hak! Stop embarrassing me!" With that she folded her arms across her chest avoiding his eyes. But then Soo won's laughter seemed to make her forget it. She loved him more than ever.

Hak mercilessly prodded at his waist beneath the robe, drawing more giggles and threats. "DOHOHOHO NOHOHOT! OHOHOHO PLEHEHEHEASE HAHAHAVE MERCY!"

"Found the weak spot at last, I gotten rusty haven't I yona?"

"Hak..." she sighed, though he did nothing to stop him.

She noticed how the blush on his face began to spread. He was struggling less from fatigue, she knew it was his limit.

"Alright, that's enough, Hak..." yona said, now pulling at his sleeve. But being too engrossed Hak was way too excited to wreck. Soo won. Until when Soo won, he retaliated by pushing himself over him. Surprising them both.

"Yohohohou hahahad your fuhuhun! Nohow its my tuuhurn!"

With that, Hak's laughter renewed, and it didn't even last long when they both were trying to fight back and grapple. Yona smiled fondly, not wanting to let this moment shorten.

Both boys' laughter filled the Palace, and it will always be a place of happiness.

The forest is quiet as you weave through the dense underbrush, your hands skilfully plucking at the delicate leaves of a healing herb nestled in the shade. The sun filters through the green above, and for a moment, you take in the peace of nature, away from the bustling energy of the village. It's not every day you get the chance to help restock the supplies of your mother’s pharmacy, even though you’re always more than happy to help.

After all, collecting herbs means at least a few minutes of peace, a few minutes away from your mother’s desperate attempts to match you up with a random man. You know she only wants your best. After all, your father is the love of her life. It’s only natural for mothers to wish for that happy ending for their daughters, right?

You can’t help but grimace. Marrying a jerk from your village isn’t exactly your vision of a happy ending, though. If it was for you, you’d be happy enough by becoming a pharmacist just like your mother while getting to train with your father from time to time.

A pharmacist…That bouquet of moonshade bloom looks exceptionally good today. Its healing properties will be of great help for your father when he finally returns home-

Your focus on the herbs is abruptly shattered when the sound of rustling leaves catches your attention. Did someone follow you? Your mother, by any chance? No, you are the only one who knows about that secret place, the only villager who comes here. But who…?

You glance up, fingers tightening around the handle of the small blade strapped to your waist. Your father told you over and over that a knife can be a dangerous weapon in the right hands, that you should never use its powers carelessly.

A group of rough-looking men steps into view, their eyes narrowing as they spot you. Your heart drops to the floor, fierce eyes following each and every step. This can’t be good. This definitely means trouble.

“Well, well,” one of them drawls, smirking as his gaze sweeps over you.

“What’s a pretty thing like you doing out here all alone?”

You straighten, willing yourself to appear unfazed.

“Just minding my business,” you reply evenly, your hand inching closer to the hilt of your sword.

“And I advice you to do so as well.”

But they don’t seem inclined to leave it at that. No, instead, one steps even closer, his grin widening in a horrendous way.

“We’ll take real good care of you. No need to be shy.”

Your heart pounds as they close in, and though you’re confident in your skills, you know you’re outnumbered. That won’t stop you from giving it your all. Little do they know you aren’t a shy and weak girl from a nearby village. No, you are the daughter of a captain who serves under the crown itself. He never cared about the fact that you are a girl, always trained you like a son. Exactly for moments like these.

Just as your fingers wrap around your blade, a blur of movement descends from the trees.

“Now, now,” a unfamiliar, teasing voice cuts through the tension.

“Is this the part where I ask if I’m interrupting something?”

The men freeze, startled by the sudden interruption. Your head snaps up toward the source of the low and somehow taunting voice, your grip on your blade tightening. A tall figure emerges from the shadows of the trees, moving with the grace of someone who has seen far too many battles.

He’s tall, there’s no doubt in the fact that he’s quite muscular underneath the dark cloak he’s wearing. His strikingly blue eyes flick to you briefly, his smirk cocky and self-assured, before settling on the men again.

Who on earth is he?

“Interrupting? Not at all,” one of the bandits sneers, regaining his composure.

“But this isn’t your business, stranger. Why don’t you move along?”

The man chuckles, an easy, confident sound that only serves to irritate the bandits further.

“Oh, but you see, I just can’t help myself when it comes to damsels in distress. It’s a weakness of mine.”

“Damsel in distress?”, you hiss through gritted teeth

You bristle, ready to argue that you’re no damsel, but the situation is too tense to waste time on resentment. Besides, the stranger’s interruption has bought you a moment to steady yourself, and you intend to use it.

The bandit leader narrows his eyes.

“You’ve got a death wish, pal.”

“Maybe,” the man replies casually, lifting his glaive off his shoulder and twirling it with practiced ease.

“But I’ll still take my chances over yours.”

Without warning, one of the bandits lunges at him, a blade drawn. You barely have time to process what happens next - a flash of steel, and the man goes flying backward, clutching his chest and groaning in pain while you didn’t even manage to pull out your knife in the meantime.

The stranger doesn’t stop there. He moves like lightning, his glaive cutting through the air in wide, precise arcs that force the other bandits to scatter.

And you? You just watch him like a fool with your mouth open.

“You lot really are a disappointment,” he comments with a mocking sigh.

“Is this what passes for banditry these days?”

One by one, the men fall like rice sacks. Some manage to run, tripping over their own feet in their haste to escape, while others are left sprawled on the ground, groaning in defeat. It’s over in a matter of moments, leaving only you and the stranger standing amidst the chaos.

You are loss at words. Did this…really just happen?

He plants his glaive in the dirt and turns to you, his smirk softening into something almost friendly.

“You alright, Miss?”

Miss…You lower your blade but don’t sheath it just yet. Your eyes narrow as you study him, unsure whether to thank him or demand his intentions. What did he do here anyway?

He doesn’t seem fazed by your caution at all, though. In fact, his grin only widens.

“You’ve got the look of someone who’s about to say, ‘I had it under control,’” he mocks, leaning casually on his weapon.

“I did,” you reply sharply, finally slipping your blade into its sheath.

He chuckles again, the sound low and annoyingly charming.

“Of course you did. I’m sure you would’ve handled it beautifully.”

He tilts his head, a curious glint in his eyes.

“Still, it doesn’t hurt to have a little backup, right?”

“And what do you want for this ‘backup’?” you ask, crossing your arms.

He raises his hands in mock surrender.

“Whoa, easy there. I don’t charge for being a hero. Consider this a freebie.”

You’re unconvinced, but he doesn’t seem malicious. If anything, he looks mildly amused by your wariness.

“You’re not from around here,” you remark, more a statement than a question.

“Caught that, did you?” he replies, clearly entertained.

“You’re right. Just passing through. But I’d hate to think what would’ve happened if I hadn’t.”

His gaze shifts to the bouquet of herbs you’d dropped during the commotion.

“A pharmacist, huh? Or is it an herbalist?”

“Both,” you answer tersely, bending to retrieve the herbs.

You keep one eye on him as you do, unwilling to let your guard down entirely. You hate to admit how mesmerising his fierce eyes look, how inviting those strong arms are.

Inviting…Are you out of your mind?

“Impressive,” he notes, leaning on his glaive again.

“And the blade? That’s not just for show, I take it?”

“My father taught me,” you reply, straightening with the herbs in hand.

“And I can handle myself, thank you very much.”

“I don’t doubt it. But if I hadn’t stepped in, you might’ve been forced to prove it a little too much.”

You bite back a reply, unwilling to give him the satisfaction of rising to his bait.

Hak leans casually on his glaive, his smirk as infuriating as ever. He won’t give up, won’t he?

“You’ve got a lot of fire, Miss Pharmacist. How about actually proving it?”

Your brows furrow.

“Prove it? I don’t have anything to prove to you.”

“Oh, I think you do,” he teases, straightening up.

“Come on, impress me. You’ve got a blade, and from the way you carry yourself, I’d say you know how to use it. Or was that all talk?”

Your jaw tightens. He’s provoking you and you know it, but you’re not about to back down. Not when you’re challenged like that.

“Fine. You asked for it.”

Drawing your knife, you take a step back to create space, your movements fluid and precise. Hak raises an eyebrow, clearly intrigued as you ready your stance.

“Anytime you’re ready,” he announces, spinning his glaive once with a flourish.

You charge forward, swinging low before feinting to the side. He blocks effortlessly, his movements annoyingly smooth. But you’re not done. You hinge, using the momentum to aim a strike at his side. He parries, his smirk widening.

“Not bad,” he admits.

“But you’re going to have to do better than that.”

Gritting your teeth, you change tactics, using a feigned stumble to lure him into an overcommitment. As he steps forward, you twist, sweeping his legs out from under him with a sharp kick. His surprised grunt is deeply satisfying as he crashes to the ground.

You’re about to step back and declare victory when his hand snaps out, grabbing your wrist.

“Not so fast,” he mumbles, yanking you down with him.

The next thing you know, you’re sprawled on the forest floor, half on top of him, his laughter ringing in your ears, his firm muscles rough against your palms.

“You’re full of surprises,” he soothes, his grin entirely too smug despite his current position. “Guess I deserved that.”

“Maybe next time you’ll think twice before underestimating me,” you huff, trying to push yourself up.

Gosh, the feeling of his body against yours almost makes your face flush. You were never this close to a man before, especially not a man like him. He definitely knows how to fight, how to use his body oh so smoothly.

“Next time?”

His grin softens, and there’s a flicker of something warmer in his gaze.

“I’ll look forward to it.”

You roll your eyes, brushing yourself off as you stand with that faint voice in your heart screaming in agony. He rises with ease, dusting off his cloak as though he wasn’t just knocked flat on his back.

“Alright, you win. I’ll admit you’re not half bad. But don’t think this makes us even. I still saved you, remember?”

You let out an exasperated sigh.

“You’re impossible.”

“And you’re irresistible,” he counters smoothly, falling into step beside you.

The banter carries you both out of the forest, and for all his teasing, you can’t deny the warmth his presence brings. For a stranger, he feels oddly… safe. Annoying, but safe.

But you can’t continue like this. If you stay by his side a little longer, you might really for his charm.

“I guess I keep going now. Have a nice journey to wherever you go next”, you finally announce while turning your step into the direction of your home.

“Hey,” he calls after you.

“Not even a ‘thank you’? Tough crowd.”

You glance over your shoulder.

“Thanks,” you bite back, though it comes out more envying than you’d intended.

He laughs, the sound warm and genuine this time.

“You’re welcome, Miss Pharmacist. If you ever need saving again, just yell. I’ll come running.”

You scoff, but can’t quite suppress the small smile tugging at your lips. Whoever this stranger is, you suspect this isn’t the last you’ll see of him.

she wasn't even in the same SHOW as the yaoi I've been convinced she deserves to win the entire poll. I was a Johnlocker but I did watch the first season of Elementary and it was fine????? It was totally okay????? Especially in hindsight given how hard Sherlock season four flopped. Also Lucy Liu is a queen and deserved zero vitriol for *checks notes* playing a character???? A fucking fictional character???????? Oh my god we were all SO mean to this show and we (or at least I) thought it was like The Good Fight™️, like we were defending BBC Sherlock against copyright infringement and straightwashing and Jonny Lee Miller's bizarre scarf, (it wasn't a good scarf I do stand by that) but then Elementary didn't make Holmes and Watson a couple either???? And also it didn't insult its audience constantly etc etc we've all seen the Hbomberguy Sherlock is Garbage video. This is really long sorry hashtag justice for Joan Watson.

She’s the fiancé of prince Sidon, (arranged marriage) and since Sidon is almost always shipped with link, people went feral the second they saw her. She’s genuinely very kind and cares about her people and wants Sidon to be happy! She is NOT jealous, she wants him to hang out with his Best Friend. I have seen firsthand in real-time, people being SO misogynistic and cruel, and saying she’s ugly. She’s good in a crisis, very friendly, has a great design, and she doesn’t deserve the hate in the slightest!

so the breath of the wild fandom is pretty well known for REALLY liking prince sidon aka that one really tall fish guy. and they're also really well known for shipping him with link because every fandom needs a gay ship right. so then the sequel (totk) comes around and it's revealed that sidon has a fiance now and it's not link it's some zora girl from another domain. the game hasn't even been out for a month but i've seen people act so vile towards her like yona get behind me!!!! 

i think it should really be mentioned now people in her round 1 poll were literally still treating her like shes there to stop yaoi that was never intended to be canon to start this with.in the poll about criticizing people doing that.

Well, we're back at it again a whole year later for me to tell y'all to go read Concubine Walkthrough. It's 128 chapters (with some bonus content) of pure excellence.

While on the surface looking like a typical otome isekai read of 'MC transmigrates into the body of a story's villainess', Concubine Walkthrough turns the genre on its head with its implementation of sci-fi, philosophy and political battles in addition to beautiful artwork and heart-wrenching storytelling. If you're a fan of The Apothecary Diaries and The Matrix, you will enjoy this ride thoroughly.

Concubine Walkthrough follows the journey of protagonist Yona Lee who in 2030, three years before the start of the story, played a game called Concubine Walkthrough. A popular and innovative otome game falling the protagonist Lili who has been forced to go to the imperial palace to become a concubine.

Max out the various stats Lili has to embark on one of many paths from marrying the emperor to royal imperial consort. Of course the one who stands as the pinnacle of obstructing your progress is villainess, Ranhee Seo, the royal imperial consort the terror of the imperial court.

Three years later, that chance comes again when, for its upcoming anniversary, Concubine Walkthrough is having a special VR rerelease. That's all fine and dandy, what isn't fine and dandy though is the fact that Yona has woken up in the game without any memory of ever logging on. Furthermore, she's playing as the game's villainess, Ranhee.

Nothing she does will summon the game's menu and nothing she does let's her log out. The game master only gives her one requirement to exit the game, Marry the emperor and make Ranhee Seo the empress.

It's only then that Yona remembers that for the special VR release of the game, one of the promoted features of the rerelease was a co-op mode and she might not be the only player stuck in the game as she is forced to strategize and partake in deadly games within the world of concubines.

Through its storytelling, Concubine Walkthrough encourages both the readers and characters alike to contemplate:

If you woke up one day and realized your entire life was a simulation, does that make your life any less meaningful? Simulated it may have been, the pains and joys your heart experienced was still real to you. It's still your life.

What is reality and what does that mean to you? Is reality something you choose for yourself or is that choice made for you?

All wrapped in unique artwork, comedy gold and riveting political plots as you watch Yona survive plots on her life and has to strategize her get backs.

1) Beautiful Artwork

Concubine Walkthrough is one of the most splendid manhwas in terms of artwork. It's drawn intentionally to look reminiscent of traditional Korean artwork and is incredibly intricate from the hanbooks to the headpieces the various characters wear.

These are just a few of my favorite shots from the series but they are far from the only ones. From the very first chapter, you're getting hit with bangers in terms of the quality. Bongbong never misses.

2) The comedy is immaculate

From Yona getting stuck with shitty items like a hairclip that gives her the sense of smell of a dog but compels her to bark uncontrollably to getting a jar that's literally only full of candy.

Yona's luck with items is absolute dog water and because of that, she can find herself in some hilarious situations. She can't get anything good to save her own life and seeing how she has to make these items work is a treasure in its own right.

Even without that, Yona's dynamic with characters like Lili is quite hilarious as the story progresses.

3) The mystery & philosophy

Even Yona's eyes are representative of red and blue pills given to Neo in The Matrix.

If you're a fan of sci-fi, romance and want to read an otome isekai romp that subverts your expectations? Please read this manhwa. It's The Matrix mixed with historical Korean fiction (and of course, otome isekai at its finest).

I loved loved LOVED the philosophy behind the story, the themes. The discussion of what reality is and choosing what reality means/is to you.

Just because your entire life is a simulation, does that make your entire life up until that point irrelevant? Simulated it may be, your joy, your pain, your love, all of that still felt real, right? There were so many things I never considered about that very topic until I read this series.

4) The Characters

There is not enough time in the day to delve into the characters of Concubine Walkthrough. They're all layered, complex and you won't be able to get enough of them as the story progresses. Even now after finishing the story months later, I still want more content concerning the cast. From protagonists to side characters.

Yona is a very compelling protagonist from start to finish. She's active, rather than letting things just happen she gets the jump on what she can. Her intelligence and her empathy as well as her comedic genius is so fun to watch along the beautifully illustrated pages. Not to mention her chemistry with characters Lili and Youngjung is a sight to behold.

Sadly, despite how key Lili and Youngjung are to the plot, I cannot delve too deeply about them due to spoilers. What I can say, however, is that Lili is a breath of fresh air on the trope of having the original protagonist of the source material interact with the story's female lead.

And Youngjung? In a lot of ways he represents the themes I was discussing in my previous point.

And of course, I cannot mention Concubine Walkthrough without bringing up Sunshine in any capacity. The mysterious eunuch who has become Yona's ally in this game. Like Lili and Youngjung, I cannot delve too deeply into this character without major spoilers but just know that even when you think you finally have the grasp on this character, Bongbong will still manage to flip the script on its head and surprise you. Multiple times even.

And I think that's enough singing praises for this manhwa (not really). Like I said, this manhwa is The Apothecary Diaries meets The Matrix wrapped up in the bow of the otome isekai genre. Not only do you get beautiful artwork but a vibrant cast and deep story along with it.

A violent yet captivating world of concubines with a strong splash of sci-fi sounds like such a strange mixture, but Bongbong blends them beautifully into one of the best stories I've ever read.

Please, and I cannot stress this enough, give Concubine Walkthrough a read.
